This was my first shoot for US Vogue.com with Style Editor at Large, Elizabeth Von Thurn und Taxis. As I have lived in Germany for many years, I knew who she was and was very excited to meet her. Thurn und Taxis is a principality in Bavaria and one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Germany made more recently famous by her outrageous mother Gloria. Elizabeth herself is an actual Princess and therefore my first brush with european royalty.
We started the day rather early by meeting at her private address near Union Square in New York that is owned by her mother. Elizabeth was immediately warm, welcoming and very ‘normal’ (not sure what I expected from a Princess) and the apartment was absolutely stunning having been decorated with impeccable style.
We were a great team that day working around Elizabeth and I found her quite fascinating to talk too while styling her hair in between shots. She is very ‘down-to-earth’ and not at all pretentious, and I really got a sense that she was making her own way in the world despite the prestige and wealth that she was born into. Without sounding disrespectful, she seemed to have a healthy and modern perspective on her lineage and I really liked her.
And P.S- Anna Wintour really liked the last shot in the fur coat!!
Get the look.
I rough dried the hair with KM Full.Again and a little Motion Lotion on the ends for definition. A soft mid-length curl with my conical iron gave it a little more lift for the outdoor and evening shots.
